Oh hello! Here we are popping into your inbox for a much-needed Good Trip update.
As many of you know, our goal from the beginning was to publish a print publication, emphasis on print. We really miss print publications!
TLDR: We’re going to publish Issue 1 of Good Trip here on Substack, with one piece a week, through January.
More info below ⬇️
“So, you just gave up on the whole idea of print?”
Not exactly. We’ve been working on pulling together this issue for the past two years alongside our busy full-time work. We had most of our editorial ready to go since the beginning of this year. But we ran into delays on the design side of things — mostly because neither of us are designers, and since this is a labor of love, we wanted to respect other contributors’ time and energy. We finally decided to invest some money to pay a designer to finish the layout in the past few months, but unfortunately we ran into some delivery issues.
We really want to get these pieces in front of readers, so we ultimately decided the best course, to no longer draw things out, is to publish right here via Substack!
While not in print, we do love the early internet blogging feel of Substack.
“Will there be a future print issue?”
Potentially. We still love the idea of it, but passion projects, especially projects started during the pandemic, shift and change priorities and goals. There aren’t set plans at the moment, but never say never! We’re open to seeing what comes.
“Will the content be paywalled?”
No, all stories will be open and free to view. But, if you’d like to support our efforts, you can contribute at Buy Me a Coffee. This is totally optional, and we’ll include a link in each issue.
To sum up:
We’re still very proud of the stories, photos and illustrations, and are excited to finally share them with you!
Good Trip was started in the middle of 2020, at a time when we were yearning for travel. Fast forward to 2023, and life is very different (and thank goodness for that!).
But we’re still all for creating “a lively travel guide for the culturally curious,” and we think these stories represent that.
